Here are some ideas that you can take to create great student volunteering activity on your campus to celebrate the impact that student volunteers make

·         Shop front takeover: Every town or city will have a few empty shops. Why not look into the possibility of hiring them for a week (as a charity you should get them very cheap, if not free with a bit of bargaining) and cover the windows with great stories about what students have done and how you’ve been working in the local community. Or perhaps you could be even more adventurous, setting up a community centre for one week where members of the local community can come and let you know the good things students have been doing as well as the things they’d like you to fix

·         Favour flashmob: What about the possibility of getting all your students in once place at one time to go out into the community and find ‘favours’ to do. You could let the local community know that students will carrying out favours at a certain time on a certain day so they can send in ideas of help. It could be small things from taking an old mattress to the tip, to a rubbish clean up in the park or daffodil planting on roadside verges. Something that will get the community excited about the involvement of students.

·         Wellies Wednesday: With many students having Wednesday afternoons of to play sport, this can be a great time to get students out into the community. Why not create a specific afternoon, wellies Wednesday, to encourage your students to put their wellies on and go and burn a few calories smartening up the green areas around the university or college. But rather than just having students alone how can you get others involved from different groups you may, or may not, already work with. The engagement opportunities are endless.
