Award Nominations for SVW 2015 have now closed

Volunteering is a vital part of any thriving community and students can make a significant impact through the work that they do, no matter how small or insignificant they think it may be.

Do you know a student who is passionate about and committed to making a positive impact in their community through volunteering?

If so, nominations are now open for the Student Volunteer of the Year Award 2015 and once again we are celebrating the impact of student volunteering by shortlisting five inspirational student volunteers and choosing one overall winner.

Nominations close on 12 December 2014 so don’t miss this opportunity to give a student volunteer the national recognition they deserve.

HOW DO I NOMINATE A STUDENT?

10 September – 12 December: Nominations open
The SVW team then shortlist five students
16 January: Shortlist announced via social media, SVW website and wider press
The judges choose an overall winner
23 February: The five shortlisted students attend the Celebration Event in the House of Lords where the winner is announced

WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA?

The nominee must have been a HE or FE student in the academic year 2013-14 or be a current student in the academic year 2014-15
Activity must have been done on a voluntary/unpaid basis within the last 12 months
The student must have volunteered on a regular basis, or over a period of time

WHAT DO THE JUDGES LOOK FOR IN A NOMINEE?

Passion, motivation and commitment to making a positive social impact in their community through volunteering
Clear impact on volunteering projects, for instance by taking a leadership role or by developing/expanding a project
Someone who encourages and inspires others to volunteer

WHEN’S THE DEADLINE?

12 December 2014.

WHAT DOES THE WINNER RECEIVE?

£1000 to go towards a charity or volunteering project of their choice.

WHY SHOULD I NOMINATE SOMEONE?

Reward and recognise the impact and achievements of a student
Inspire other students to get involved with volunteering
You could gain national recognition for the work of your volunteering centre or charity

Not at all, we’ve made it quick and easy for you to nominate using our online form. Simply fill in your details, your nominee’s details, and then tell us about their volunteering and what makes them an inspiring volunteer.

HOW IS THE WINNER ANNOUNCED?

The five shortlisted volunteers are invited to our Celebration Event in the House of Lords on Monday 23 February. The winner is announced at this event in front of volunteering staff, students, and representatives from charities, business and government. You can see photos from last year’s event here.

I WORK FOR A CHARITY WITH STUDENT VOLUNTEERS, CAN I NOMINATE ONE OR MORE OF THEM?

Yes. We welcome nominations from anyone who works with student volunteers, whether that volunteering is done through their university/college or an external organisation.
